Project Planning:
Groups:
- Mission Statement: Our mission for this school year is to provide more activities and events that expose students to the STEM fields in a meaningful manner and through a hands-on approach.
- Project Need: Our GirlsBuild team is made up of students who are currently involved in many extracurricular activities. One of the extracurricular activities that is not readily available or limited at our school is related to the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields. The project is needed to create an impact in the lives of students, especially to increase the number of female representation in the STEM fields, increase opportunities for higher wages, and for BIPOC students to be represented in STEM pathways by creating resources, increasing access to a supportive network with mentors and role models.
- About Us: The team is made up of students who have expressed interest in STEM fields or have interest in expanding their knowledge, are interested in improving their community through community service, and are committed to empowering students. Through our partnership with DIY Girls, some our members have already learned various skills such as soldering, coding, etc. Our team meets every Monday during lunch time, and will continue to work on planning our events.
- Proposed events: Our team will work to address the lack of activities and events by hosting several events focused on DIY Science Experiments, special events such as Astronomy Night and Guest Speakers that can provide mentorship, Educational Workshops, and STEM related field trips.
- Short-term impact: Students who participate in our STEM workshops or college tours will learn about the different careers in STEM
- Long-term impact: Students will learn various skills such as coding, soldering, robotics, etc that can assist them in their daily lives and career.
